Some years ago I saw a George Carlin routine where he shamed golfers, because the golf course requires so many resources and is not open to everyone to enjoy. It was not the first time that I disagreed with him but, I took this one very personal. Suddenly, I wasn't in on the joke - I was the joke. Inevitably, we all were the joke!
I loved George Carlin because he made me think about myself and my world.
That was one of his many qualities - tell it like he saw it! George was a keen, critical, and cranky observer of our world. That's why I chose this recent 21st Century clip - Modern Man - to post here. The taunting way that he delivered monologues like this reminded me just how silly we are in our everyday haste. The pace of delivery of this monologue mirrors that frantic lifestyle and makes the mockery just that more appropriate.
For exposing our idiosyncracies and making us think. Thank you, George.
